Brasílio Itiberê da Cunha

Brazilian composer and diplomat. One of the pioneers in the use of folkloric themes in classical musical composition in Brazil. He became friends with some of the greatest pianists of his time, such as Anton Rubinstein. He is the patron of chair no. 19 of the Brazilian Academy of Music. Among his works, A Sertaneja (1869) stands out as the first Brazilian nationalist piece.

Alexandre Levy (born in São Paulo on November 10, 1864, died on January 17, 1892) was a Brazilian composer, pianist and conductor.

Born in São Paulo, he was a pioneer in integrating Brazilian popular music, particularly its rhythms, into classical composition. He died at the age of twenty-seven. His hometown awards a prestigious prize in his name.

Darius Milhaud, in Le Bœuf sur le toit, borrowed a theme from Levy's Tango Brasileiro2.
