Capoeira - Guitarimbau | Rhythms of Bahia

With this CD I perform my compositions inspired by capoeira music and I unveil my invention, a new instrument, the guitarimbau, a mix of guitar and berimbau.

🌟 The Musical Universe & The Project

Welcome to a unique sonic journey to the heart of Bahia.

With this new EP, Capoeira - Guitarimbau: Rhythms of Bahia, I invite you to discover my latest compositions inspired by Afro-Brazilian traditions: the rhythms of capoeira, afoxé, ijexá, and maculelê. This EP also marks the birth of a personal innovation: the guitarimbau, a unique instrument of my own creation that fuses the guitar and the berimbau.

To bring this world to life, I create a dialogue between the 7-string guitar, the viola caipira, the viola oitavada, and that famous guitarimbau. My music lies at the crossroads of my greatest influences: the richness of Brazilian music, the freedom of jazz, and the rigor of classical music, following in the footsteps of masters such as Baden Powell, Marco Pereira, Roland Dyens, and Pat Metheny.

A grand musical tapestry: This EP is part of a long-term project begun a few years ago, whose objective is to celebrate the music of the five regions of Brazil. After the Bossa Nova of the Southeast in 2024 (Bossa de Novo) and the Carimbó of the North in 2025 (Carimbó do Pará), 2026 is the year of the Northeast and the vibrant energy of Bahia.

The album features bold harmonies, innovative arrangements, and finely crafted lyrics by the great Brazilian poet Agenor de Oliveira (Rio de Janeiro). Recording began in April 2026. Mixing and mastering will be entrusted to the expert ears of Robson Gaudino's studio, with an official release planned for September 2026 – the best gift to celebrate my 65th birthday!

To bring this 5-track project to life, I am fortunate to be surrounded by exceptional musicians and singers, long-time companions on the road and on stage:

Rhythm & Strings: Jeferson Silva (percussion), Feijão Ricardo (bass) and myself (guitar, guitarimbau).

Voices: Anna Torres, Enda, Felipe Velasco and Agenor de Oliveira.

Special guests: Renowned flautist Raul Mascarenhas and percussionist Isaias Alves.

In order to control costs, the first sessions and mock-ups are done directly in my studio, independently and self-produced.
