TEN YEARS OF TEACHING AT THE GEORGES BIZET CONSERVATORY (VESINET CITY)

• Presentation :

The Conservatoire à Rayonnement Communal Georges Bizet is a public artistic education service in the city of Vésinet (Yvelines). Theater, classical dance and music are taught there in various forms, of course with classical music lessons, but also collective practice (instrumental ensembles) and a department devoted to contemporary music.

Since 2010 I have been teaching classical guitar lessons there, to which were added in 2016 the MAO (Computer Assisted Music) class and in 2017, that of the guitar ensemble (activities developed on page 13).

Currently, at the Vésinet conservatory, the traditional music department has not yet been created, but within my classes and with the approval of my superiors, I regularly offer various pieces from the traditional Latin American repertoire: bossa nova, tangos , boleros (Mexico), cueca (Chile) and valsa (Venezuela) ...

With the exception of adult students, the course for Conservatory students is divided into three cycles. Each of these cycles is divided into four degrees which correspond to the normal annual progression. Note that the 1st cycle can be reduced to three years for students with special aptitudes. In addition, if a pupil is not ready for his passage to the higher cycle, he is granted one more year.

• Assessment methods:

Classical guitar: At the end of the year, the students present one, two or even three pieces in front of a jury of teachers with the presence of the director of the Conservatory. The same pieces are presented by students of the same degree. The evaluations are noted: VG (Very good) with unanimity and / or congratulations, VG (Very good), B (Good), AB (Fairly good), this last mark giving rise to a repetition.

To prepare the children for this exam, I carry out a kind of continuous assessment throughout the school year, assigning each student marks for their personal work, their deciphering, their fingering, their playing with the metronome, their interpretation. . These notes, often encouraging, have no value for the end-of-year exam, but stimulate the child to continue his progress.

Guitar ensemble: These collective practice classes have two levels: ensemble 1 (1st cycle) and ensemble 2 (2nd cycle). There is no organized academic assessment at this time. However, students are graded based on their performance in concerts, attendance, and behavior.

MAO: For this recently created class, an evaluation is planned at the end of the year. During this, each student should be able to perform various exercises from applications on iPad and computer software: entering scores, producing music sequences. He will also need to know how to make an audio recording and midi programming.

Below is an overview of the objectives for each cycle of the guitar class, followed by an overview of the MAO and guitar ensemble classes.
