Fingerings for the major and natural minor scales with open strings in all keys

Fingerings for the major, melodic minor, harmonic minor, pentatonic and unitonic scales, tonic on the 6th and 5th strings.

Harmonizing the chords of the scale

The harmonization technique allows us to compose a 4-note chord on each of the degrees of the Major scale by superimposing thirds.

We obtain a compound agreement:

  • of a fundamental (or tonic) note
  • of a Third (Major or Minor)
  • of a perfect fifth
  • of a Seventh (Major or minor)

These basic chords, colored by adding extensions, can be used on this scale when harmonic analysis indicates it for the piece.

By conducting a more detailed study, we obtain the table of chords derived from the scale (example in C Major):

An altered range

The melodic minor scale is an 'altered' major scale.

It is enough, in fact, to reduce the third of a major scale to obtain the melodic minor scale.

Range intervals

The scale of intervals in the range is established as follows:

The formula to remember is (in C):

Note the 4 notes at whole tone intervals after the minor third and up to the major seventh.

Harmonizing the range through chords

By superimposing the notes of this scale in thirds (major or minor), we obtain the following arpeggios and triads:
